Lithgow Flash Gift
The Lithgow Flash Gift is a sprint event that supports and raises money for Leukemia research. In 2010 the event was held on the 6th of March at the Tony Luchetti Showground in Lithgow. The Lithgow Flash Gift in 2010 had the largest prize money for a women’s sprint event in Australia and attracted some of fastest sprinters from Australia and New Zealand.

Marjorie Jackson-Nelson, “The Lithgow Flash” is one of Australia’s most decorated ladies of athletics. Marjorie was raised in Lithgow and trained under Jim Monaghan at the local Cinders Track. Her illustrious sporting credits include:
- Gold medals Auckland Empire Games – 100 yards, 220yards, 440yards Medley Relay, 660yards Medley Relay
- Gold Medals Helsinki Olympic Games – 100 metres and 200metres (World Record)
- 1952 Outstanding Athlete award from the Helms Foundation (USA)
- 1952 Recipient of the Australian Sportsman of the Year
- 1954 Gold Medalist at Vancouver Commonwealth Games – 100 meters
- Marjorie Jackson was the first Australian to win a gold medal on the track
The funds Marjorie is raising are being used to sponsor a Leukemia Laboratory in Forme Road, Adelaide. Recently her campaign has resulted in the appointment of a second researcher of Leukemia at the Flinders Medical Centre.
