Ren Pederson a proud father and member of MMPCU has started a children’s cancer charity after saying goodbye to his nine-year old daughter, Amy, who was tragically taken by an aggressive cancer known as Brain Stem Glioma (BSG).

Shortly after the passing of his child Ren was contacted by The Cure Starts Now, an international group fighting to find a cure for cancer. Ren set up an Australian arm of the organisation in Townsville and has been raising funds and awareness for research into BSG.

Ren says BSG is a cancer that often misses out on the research it deserves as many researchers put it into the 'too hard' basket. Ren adds that the ‘treatments these poor children are subjected to have remained virtually unchanged since the seventies. ’ The tumour is so difficult to treat as it damages nerves in the brain stem vital for breathing, consciousness, and movement.

Despite this Ren says positives can still emerge from negatives. ‘Our registered charity has raised $40,000 since October last year, 100% of which is placed into the hands of designated specialists. No Charity can boast that!’ he said.

2010 Golf Day on 30th July (Townsville Golf Club)

All proceeds raised from The Cure Starts Now Foundation Golf Day will go towards supporting research programs.

We ask the business community to sponsor this event by registering a team of four at a cost of $700 which will include lunch, drinks, and a barbeque dinner to finish (Teams will need to organise buggies and equipment direct with the Townsville golf club).
